Artistic Statement

When it came to deciding on where to go to college, I narrowed my search down to two schools: The Catholic University of America, or SUNY Cobleskill. At Catholic, I would study musical theatre. At SUNY, I would be an agriculture major, be a defender on the men’s soccer team, and also be a member of their competitive lumberjacking squad. Two very different paths lay ahead of me. I went with the prior, and decided to sing, dance, and wear tight pants for four years. Despite this choice, the South Jersey farm boy in me remains alive. Some of my happiest memories growing up are those spent with my nose to the grindstone; stacking hay bales, competing in track meets through high school and college, putting up fencing with my dad, etc. This is why I love theatre. In every script, story, and character there is something to explore. Each day I walk into the rehearsal room, I get to give 100% of myself to a new world, finding the niche ways this character lives and breathes. The world loves theatre because it’s the most relatable science experiment ever to exist. We boil down part the human experience and analyze it on the stage. Even the grittiest, most avant garde play ever created has a level of repeatable polish. Taking part in these experiments is the great privilege of being an actor, and I am forever grateful that I chose to be a guinea pig.
